Dual row retaining walls in dry sand: influence of wall stiffness on seismic response

چکیده
Dual row retaining walls can form efficient port and embankment structures, or even be used as coastal defence against tsunamis. The system of parallel sheet pile have a large lateral capacity within serviceability limit states due to the combined strength stiffness confined soil. Optimising design by reducing wall section ensuring greater utilisation soil has economic environmental benefits but requires deeper understanding dynamic soil–structure interaction. Centrifuge modelling numerical are elucidate mechanics two systems with relatively flexible stiff walls. Considering fraction wall’s plastic moment mobilised alongside peak deflections illustrates advantages using in these systems. More fundamentally, importance vertical variations both stress strain during horizontal loading is shown. limiting stresses phasing components around better understood considering mobilisation earth pressure coefficients, reinforcing previous work that recommends move away from conventionally defined coefficients.

Seismic Analysis of Retaining Walls within Plasticity Framework
Aseismic design of gravity wall still is a more difficult issue. The reason stems from the complexity of the problem which requires skills in soil mechanics, foundation engineering, soil-structure interaction along with knowledge of structure dynamics. Designing seismic gravity retaining structures deals with both kinematic interaction and inertial interaction but almost seismic building code n...
متن کاملseismic analysis of lateral earth pressure and retaining walls
eart pressure problems are encountered in retaining walls, bulkheads, sheeting and bracing in cuts, culverts, tunnels, and cofferdams. in many cases, the lateral pressure is determined by use of classical earth pressure theories, such as coulomb's, where the equilibrium conditions of a failure wedge of soil is considered. excessive dynamic lateral earth pressure on retaining structures resu...
متن کاملResponse and Modeling of Cantilever Retaining Walls Subjected to Seismic Motions
A series of nonlinear, explicit finite difference analyses were performed to determine the dynamic response of a cantilever retaining wall subjected to earthquake motions. This article outlines the calibration and validation of the numerical model used in the analyses and comparisons are presented between the results from the finite difference analyses and results from simplified techniques for...
متن کاملComparison of plasticity and stiffness of steel shear walls with composite steel plate shear wall
The steel shear wall and composite steel plate shear wall is introduced in recent three decade and is considered and is spread rapidly. Composite steel plate shear wall which is made of a layer of thin steel sheet with coating of reinforced concrete in one or both sides of steel palate is considered a third generation of resistance shear walls against lateral loads that in addition to increasin...
متن کاملSeismic Earth Pressure Development in Sheet Pile Retaining Walls: A Numerical Study
Abstract: The design of retaining walls requires the complete knowledge of the earth pressure distribution behind the wall. Due to the complex soil-structure effect, the estimation of earth pressure is not an easy task; even in the static case. The problem becomes even more complex for the dynamic (i.e., seismic) analysis and design of retaining walls. Several earth pressure models have been de...
